As you embark on the story of Be Your Best Clothing, just know that it is a personal one. My hope is that you see a bit of who I am through the journey, who I am becoming, and the artistic vision that I have to share with those willing to stay along for the ride. This will be told from my perspective.
about me coming soon! This story begins in a difficult time. With COVID-19 aside, life was throwing some serious punches. As I always say, those were troubling times in the kingdom. Motivation was at an all-time low, learning was becoming exceedingly difficult, exams were being failed one by one, and hope was dwindling with every day that passed.
In that fall semester, I had enrolled in an Entrepreneurial Leadership course (ENGR 310). It was in this class that class that I was assigned with the now famous project of starting a clothing brand. The prompt for the project was to create a brand based on something that you are passionate about. That would be the best way to find an audience to buy the clothes.
Most things in life were looking fairly bleak. There was nothing but uncertainty for the future dependent on kid losing faith in his ability. racking up debt with each semester that passed. Growing up, all I ever truly wanted was to be able. I did things purely “for the vibes.” Now that things finally seemed to really matter and became real, I was cracking under the pressure. Be Your Best was created as a reminder to get it together because the future was at stake.
For this project, we had to build the website, design the clothes, and make sales. We had to meet certain other criteria, but aside from that, we were free to do whatever. I got absolutely lost in the project. In each step of the process, the more I threw myself into the work, the more I was brought back to the present. In those moments, I was inspired, I was motivated, and I was happy. Hope did not matter because I believed nothing could wrong as long as I kept going.
Once the class was over, I knew that there was no way that I would be giving up this brand because I was absolutely obsessed. We were blessed to have been given a six-month free trial for Shopify. We started off with drop shipping, but I wasn’t a fan of the quality. That began my journey towards exploring how to make the clothes in myself starting with blanks and discovering a new creative outlet.
At this point in the process, I have reached the stage where I know what this brand means to me because in all honesty, I created it for me. I use the brand as my means of creating and sharing my art. So now I create art for those that I care about, those that resonate with my interpretation of this art, or those that can get their own message from it. This brand has done a lot for me, and I hope it can do the same for all of you.
